This series is an intimate view of the insecurities and inhibitions that constrain my perceptions of beauty. My photographs raise questions about my restrained relationship with a beauty regime, and my power play against it as I confront the taboo of not attempting to resemble a stereotypical ideal of beauty just to feel socially adequate.
My photographs suggest a tense resistance shared between the viewers and my gaze, which compels them to acknowledge my control over what they are allowed to see. I introduce feminist undertones by experimenting with body language and pushing boundaries that do not conform to the ideals of beauty, such as a rich description of stretch marks, blemishes, and flesh that is tangible with or without embellishment.
