I am interested in everyday objects that are out of fashion and/or function. Once ordinary and useful household items now carry dust, memories, and secrets while reflecting the truth about culture and neglected craftsmanship. Objects from the past that pay tribute to cultural inheritance remind us to slow down and help us reconnect to the present.
My recent work explores the gap between the current perception of the cultural significance of objects relegated as obsolete and past perception of these objects in their time and places of origin. This body of work studies the distance and tension between the way an object was originally designed to function and the way in which it is perceived today. The objects I choose to re-design in clay become more abstract as the time between when they were first produced and now increases
