I’m mesmerized by portraiture. Gazing at someone until I no longer recognize them, building their image back up through mark making until they appear again - a bottom lip catching light, a golden wisp of hair, the gentle curve of a clavicle - I still don’t know what it all means but I know how I feel when I capture it. I know that there is no better feeling in the world when I do. It’s enough for me.
