My Canon A-1 originally belonged to my father in the early 80s, and I always loved looking at the photos he shot with it: portraits of my sister and I, his experiments with motion blur, or just candid vacation photos. I was so excited when he gifted me his camera a few years ago. It still works, feels so stout in my hands, and pressing the shutter feels so satisfying. I shot this diptych at the cutest little hotel in Palm Springs when I was six or seven months pregnant with twins. My husband and I had tried getting pregnant for so long, so after a successful round of IVF, we were over the moon. I wanted to document this little calm before the storm, this "babymoon" we were on. Because it was perfect.
