I debated between buying a very practical Canon 5D system or the semi-outdated Mamiya 645 AFD with a digital back. Naturally I abandoned practicality and found a good Mamiya package on eBay.
Digital medium format is pretty unique because you’re really using a film camera body but the images are just captured digitally. The bigger, slower nature of the camera forces you to slow your entire process down and there’s a real tactile nature to each time you press the shutter button. Paired with the convenience of digitally viewing each image after its captured.
I had an idea to collaborate on a new image to promote an art show that I was a part of, featuring the other artist in the show, Dewey Saunders. We basically combined our aesthetics into one image. It was a great beginning to filling my portfolio with Mamiya work.
