My name is Kiran Joan - I'm an illustrator based in Baltimore, Maryland. I have worked with clients like The New York Times, NBC News, Politico, HuffPost, Taste Magazine, and more. I also teach illustration and animation at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.
My practice is ever expanding and is a reflection of my inner and outer world. As an Indian artist, I bring a de-colonial perspective to art that rests on collaboration, resourcefulness and a commitment to exploring the ‘strength of the weak’. In India, People shy away from expressing love even though it is so predominant in mainstream media and its ancient history. In my illustration work, I explore themes of femininity, sexuality and nature from a psychological lens through the readings of Sigmund Freud and Alain De Botton.
