Born in a remote logging town, Badacatt's life was happy. Southern Oregon's timber resources where vast and the only place to work was the mill. In the late 1980's, enviromentalist began a movement to save the spotted owl, who made its home in the forest, by way of halting all logging. Within a year the regional economy was totally and absolutely destroyed. This poverty, violence, and despair was the backdrop in which Badacatt (then Joshoua) came to terms with what it costs to remain alive. Plagued by chronic and serious illnesses, Badacatt also learned the meaning of empathy. In his 24 year of life he found himself overpowered by the Doctors medication. He sank into a medicated and quiet self loathing that lasted for years. With the death of his closest friend - something changed...he quit digging and started climbing.
