The archipelago of Japan consists of many islands. Some people use ferries just like most people use trains and buses. I met many people on ferries on the water of the Seto Inland Sea where about 950 islands lay and of the Tokyo Bay.
When I shot these photographs, I asked these people,
"Why you are on this ferry?"
One girl said,
"I am expecting to meet my boyfriend for the first time in a month."
Another girl said,
"I had broken up with my boyfriend and I am going my home."
These portraits are placed between the past and future.
Stories of these people are expressed on the portraits, and their appearances caught in the photos look nostalgic. Not only the photographer but also anyone who see these photographs would be able to freely imagine preceding and following stories of them.
