‘Between the Leaves’ focuses upon the ephemeral quality of light. This series of abstractions is captured by looking directly up into the leaves. The light, the crucial element for growth in these plants and in photography, becomes overwhelming at times and results in a loss of vision. Crouching beneath each of these trees and searching is an effort to go back to a moment lost. After a strong degree of photoshop manipulation, the prints are made through the historic gum bichromate process. As I print each layer of the full color process with a carcinogenic material, I continue to reflect upon the disease that took my parents, and search for the beauty in death.
