Bare Images is a self-portraiture series that was made with a page scanner, a device that is quite different to cameras that I usually use. It continues my therapeutic work that helps me accept myself and my body.
The title of the series and captions come from spam emails which I have collected on and off since 2010. I liked the phrase ‘bare images’ as it possibly helped the email land in my inbox instead of my spam folder, whilst also reflecting on how the scanner shows things how it is shown and the images are not edited.
I have long been interested by the language that is used in spam emails and after reading through my saved folder of them I decided to tell one side of a conversation through the captions of a spammer looking for love (or someone to scam).
