Last year, when due to COVID, we saw no one but those on a screen, I began painting ... those on a screen. Thank you Hollywood! I am aware of the irony - I am making an image of an image, and we are all, in a sense, images to each other. How to move beyond imagistic life into a more true and more (com)passionate embrace of reality? I don't know, I only know that in capturing an image I am trying to imbue it with a strength and realness beyond the flickers of digital mediation. I doubt this repurposing was intended by the original creators of these films, but what of it? The world is grist to a paintbrush. We paint not just to paint, not just to make a point, but to find another story, one behind the story.
