My work is about play. All results are found. I work energetically, bouncing ideas around from one to the next. I use acrylic and a variety of markers to create. A new addition to my arsenal is collage, the crisp cutouts add a new layer and dimension. My paintings-while small in scale-hold and demand attention, they work from afar but are rewarding upon closer inspection.
I draw inspiration from my first exposures to art: cartoons and street art. Pop culture and my family’s heritage are referenced in the use of bright colors and bold outlines. Paintings teeter on the edge of abstraction and recognizable shapes. Teeth, feet and hands emerge.
A character materializes, something that while not human has a personality. The characters I create are rebels, combining aspects of cartoon, street art and fine art in one weird package.
