Exploration = inspiration. What a thrill to get lost in a new city or to discover a side of town you've never experienced. It's the untold story I hope to find that gets me excited – to imagine the history behind a place stripped of its facade. These places are real, sometimes grimy, often boldly colorful, and always loaded with layers of raw character.
To reveal that character I embrace flaws, even emphasize them, with techniques that make sporadic imperfections an integral part of the final piece. It all works best when I create intuitively, so the process of layering materials like acrylic paint and paper emulates things that reveal character – strong color, images and texture – adding details that help tell our unique stories.
