In this emotionally charged short documentary, Armenian composer and pianist Tigran Hamasyan explores the connection between music and storytelling at the Matenadaran, Yerevan's manuscript archive. Guided by Professor Dr. Arusyak Tamrazyan, Tigran delves into ancient hymns and illustrations of the anthropomorphic bird, depicted on papyrus by monks for centuries. Inspired by these narratives, he composes "Areg and Manushak," performed on a mountaintop piano, airlifted by helicopter to create a fairytale-like experience for a live audience. Directed by Ruben Van Leer, this documentary introduces The Bird of a Thousand Voices, a transmedia art project based on the Armenian folktale Hazaran Blbul, where a mythical bird restores harmony to the world.
