These pictures were taken at Appleby Fair in England. An ‘annual gathering of Gypsies and Travellers’ that takes place in Cumbria every year. Having grown up in a small village where these travellers pass through each year, I was always intrigued by their way of life, and the fair.
This year I travelled up to the fair with my dad having not been for years. I had gone for a walk when I spotted a group of young lads who had a glint in their eye and were looking for something to do. I watched them for a while as they threw stones in to the river (and at each other) after a while they got bored and walked away.
These photos are an outsiders look at a fiercely closed community.
