Chinese artist Danzhu Hu is an award-winning visual storyteller based in New York, currently exploring illustration and fine art painting.
Hu’s work is whimsically melancholic with a touch of symbolism, where vibrant colors and loose lines prevail. She likes to break down and reconstruct physiological norms, emphasizing the emotional aspects of human existence. She extracts things from their natural habitats and places them in novel environments. Thus, one can often find cyborg-like beings in these pieces. Hu creates a world that seems intimately familiar yet organically foreign, as if she used a filter imbued with symbols and metaphors to reveal a world brimming with raw emotions and vulnerabilities, something she considers genuinely alien in our world.
