AI-Alien or Not

This project explores the intersection of AI and traditional photography through
the fashion photography project "Alien or Not." It is inspired by the surreal amusement park of 1990s Chongqing, China—now demolished—and the artist Shuai, whose vivid childhood memories are tied to the place. The creative process evolved from mood boards to a storyboard. The set design was developed using 3D modeling and
AI-generated imagery, then composited with photographic portraits to create a
sense of visual conflict—both documentary and surreal. Developing a distinct photographic style with AI remains difficult, as AI tends to default to conventional aesthetics. AI is not is alien force, not autonomous but a mirror that rather reflects human biases and cultural paradigms due to its reliance on existing training data.
