Minneapolis-based photographer Yasmin Yassin's ongoing personal project, 'Adornment' is a vibrant storybook of the women in Minnesota's African diaspora community.
Yasmin's work focuses on community-based stories and subcultures. Her goal is to tell stories as authentically as possible to their essence, with integrity towards those that invite her into their lives. Her work aims to show subcultures and the commonalities that connect groups of people within communities from the eyes of a storyteller — in the tradition of her East African oral-storytelling heritage — using the dynamic effects of light and color. Yasmin's work floats between fine art and documentary, aiming to at times enter a space in-between in order to recreate feelings in her imagery.
