"A Time Away" is a series of 120 mm photographs shot on a vacation with my family in Saranac Lake NY. The series is inspired by my relationship with them, and the ways I have come to view them as I grow older. Largely, these photographs show a beautiful natural surrounding being quietly interrupted by harsh colors and symbols of modernity. The personal and intimate nature of the work disrupts the tranquility and looming quality of their setting, shrinking it to more of a backdrop. The ways that I have pushed my subjects together or chosen to separate them altogether denote the interpersonal relationships as I interpret them. The confrontational expressions draw the viewer in, and offer them an opportunity to study what is inevitably a piece of me, through my lens.
