A Synonym for Meaning is a series focusing on the comfort we experience at the ledge of darkness – a place of perfect uncertainty and divestment. This work was born of my need to express myself para-linguistically, during the social and spiritual isolation of a global pandemic. My words had become frustrated; my ability to clearly express and metabolize what I was feeling, occluded by the exhausting realities of precarity and panic. I started looking at the world around me as if to seek answers. It felt as though the imagery of my quotidian life could reveal something beyond the sclerosis I was experiencing psychically. I wanted to convey, in sympathetic imagery, the scenes of my environment that spoke to me, seemingly conveying a truth greater than their material constitution.
