Work in abstraction is always a conversation with our sense and intuitive selves. My work is a reflection of my needs but also the needs of my community and the state of the situations we're all in. I make hundreds of sketches before each painting, using the symbols and proportions and colors to communicate the feelings that need to be expressed at that time. It's like diving through a dictionary looking for the words that resonate with your current state. Only when a piece is done am I able to look at it and see what it's trying to tell me or what it's communicated to others. I use those revelations as the title for the pieces but also encourage others to see what the piece is telling them. There's a deeper story that is told based on the events of the environment and of our own well-being, the painting becomes a reflection.
