A Poor Sort of Memory

A POOR SORT OF MEMORY is an exploration of my coming of age in the California desert. As a child contending with my father’s death, I would escape the morbid chaos of my family home and take refuge in the periphery. Now I return to this landscape to photograph and not without ambivalence. I struggle to parse memory from fantasy and reflection from projection. I embrace this unreliable narrator and use the tracings of my history to craft a new photographic fiction.

The photobook is published by Deadbeat Club press and is now shipping.

The exhibition of this work is currently on view at Deadbeat Club headquarters in downtown Los Angeles. The exhibition exists within a raw, abandoned space—a setting that mirrors the work’s themes of memory, home, and transformation.
