I've spent the last 3 Decembers in Ojai, California, escaping the brutality of the New York City winter that has lost all the romance I once experienced. Ojai is a magical place - part desert, part mountain valley; surrounded by horses, cacti, and the Topatopa Mountain range. Riddled with oddities like orange groves, gem shops and hills dedicated to meditation, Ojai has a surreal quality that is like no other place I've ever been. Strange things regularly happen, like the time our dinner was interrupted by a woman asking if the white horse wondering the street was ours. Nightly, because of the location of the Topatopa mountain range in relation to the setting sun, one can experience what the locals call the "Pink Moment", a 5-minute light show where the mountain range glows an assaulting pink before fading into the night sky.
