I recently connected with a talented illustrator and designer by the name of Andrew Fairclough, who many of you may know as the founder of True Grit Texture Supply. I’m extremely impressed with what he’s created and the sheer number of incredible artists using his tools speaks for itself. We thought it would be fun to tell each of our audiences about what the other is doing—Andrew interviewed me about Booooooom (you can read it here) and I wanted to make a post about some of my fav creators from his community. So that’s what this is!
If you don’t already know, True Grit Texture Supply have been crafting pro-quality digital art tools since 2017, from ultra-realistic pencils and inking brushes to long-lost vintage print effects. True Grit has grown an almost cult-like following amongst illustrators, artists and designers looking to make their digital work feel more analog. If you’re curious, you can join the TGTS email newsletter and you get a huge sample pack for Free!
Here are 10 illustrators (coulda been many many more) whose work I love, who are all using True Grit in some way to create their art.
Max Löffler
Max Löffler is an illustrator and graphic designer from Aschaffenburg, Germany. So many incredible concert posters in his portfolio—if you’ve got a band, this might be your guy.
Karlotta Freier
Karlotta Freier is a Brooklyn-based illustrator who we’ve featured in the past. Exquisite line work, perfect color palettes. Every piece feels like a classic.
Alan Berry Rhys
Alan Berry Rhys is a graphic artist and illustrator from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is heavily influenced by vintage advertising and printing methods. Details like the torn edges of the paper and the rhythm in his compositions that give the work so much energy.
Muhammad Fatchurofi
Muhammad Fatchurofi is an illustrator living and working in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. I would love to discover more creators in this part of the world. Fatchurofi’s work feels young and naive and somehow ancient at the same time. This hummingbird one is fantastic.
Luis Mendo
Luis Mendo is an artist and illustrator based in Tokyo, Japan, where he and his wife Yuka co-founded a unique creative residency called Almost Perfect. Love these compositions and the way Luis uses light.
María Jesús Contreras
María Jesús Contreras is an illustrator from the south of Chile. I looove the absurd energy in these. The weirder, the better, I always say.
Nicole Rifkin
Nicole Rifkin is an illustrator based in Brooklyn. Always drawn to Nicole’s mark-making and texture choices. The way the hair is described versus the coat or the foliage. Lovely stuff.
Sophy Hollington
Sophy Hollington is a British artist and illustrator living in rural East Sussex. Her unique work is the result of combining the painstaking linocut process with digital coloring. We featured her back in 2016 so it’s cool to see how her work has evolved since then. Really timeless stuff, especially loved what she created for The Green Knight film.
Yonil
Yonil is a Tel Aviv-based artist who embraces randomness, preferring to collage his own creations rather than found imagery. Especially love the loose and expressive line work here.
Tiffany Chin
Tiffany Chin is an illustrator based in Toronto. Quite like the way she pulls inspiration from vintage illustrations and psychedelic posters and builds them up into something completely new.
