A selection of drawings by freelance artist Ema Gaspar. Originally from Lisbon, Gaspar recently moved to Tokyo. Her work was shown at Art Fair Tokyo this year and she has worked with clients like Nike, The New York Times, Sony and Universal Music. Her coloured pencil and graphite drawings feature an arrangement of disconnected elements inspired by feelings of intensity and the desire to create a safe space to navigate challenging moments and personal traumas. The result is an absurd and uncanny inner world with a sci-fi folk twist. Fairytale figures merge with demons that relate to specific hardships and reflect Gaspar’s efforts to literally look at things differently. Recreating the atmosphere of a memory, Gaspar starts with an object or shape she finds interesting and assigns it a personality and body, taking control of the route the new story will take.
