A selection of paintings by Brooklyn-based artist Caroline Absher. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Absher received her BFA from Pratt Institute in 2016. In her latest series, “Back to Oz,” Absher turns her attention to psychological spaces where mind and body merge. Constructing her own personal version of “Oz” — an otherworldly realm inhabited by magical creatures — Absher’s paintings present a place of escape, located intangibly within the mind, but equally tethered to the natural world and our primal human connection.
“Rather than capturing a version of reality, Absher brings the unseen world to life. With fluidity of color and form, she bridges the gap between external and internal, inferring a collective and infinite ephemerality.”
