New York-based photographer Eric Chakeen (previously featured here) made the photographs in his latest book, “Golden Triangle,” while traveling through Asia, culminating in March of 2020, right before the world shut down. “It was a bizarre experience editing as the world felt very small all of the sudden, but made it more enjoyable to have a physical document of what felt like far away memories,” he explains. Shot entirely on film, the images were taken throughout Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Okinawa, and on a road trip from southern to northern Japan.
The project is Chakeen’s second book, coming after his initial release, “And Away They Go,” which was centered around horse racing in his hometown of Del Mar, California. Designed by Sam Jayne, “Golden Triangle” is more personal and intimate, and much more documentary in nature, Chakeen explains. He is currently in process on a new project with Pomegranate Press, coming soon!
