Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, artist Cayl Austin currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon. With his most recent series of paintings, Austin experiments with the deconstruction of artistic and psychological barriers. “These works are derived and inspired by the feeling induced by our human attempts to achieve, appease, and keep up with the status quo,” he explains. “The work is both an acknowledgement of the repercussions of fear and the irony of anxiety.”
