A selection of images inspired by the raw majesty of the Icelandic landscape by photographer Kurt Bauer. Born and based in Austria, Bauer is a self-taught photographer drawn to the interplay between the clarity of expression and indefinable experience — those fleeting moments of “aliveness” that arrive as quickly as they depart. For Bauer, Iceland is a place that commands inner silence and allowed him to uncharacteristically embrace solitude:
“I didn’t want any distractions, only to wholly take in what was directly before me. There was a calm excitement and a real sense of adventure as we explored through snowstorms turning into sunshine that morphed into rain and back to snowstorms. Iceland provokes this deep human desire to explore, discover and feel free, to feel part of this beautiful planet.”
