Photographer Daniel Dorsa (previously featured here) revisits his home state of Florida in his upcoming photobook, “Paradise” (Pomegranate Press, 2021). A child of Cuban and Italian immigrants, Dorsa’s fascination with Florida began in childhood, growing up in a suburb outside of West Palm Beach. As an adult living and working in Brooklyn, he describes his visits home as times of contrast — “a fondness and nostalgia for home meeting intense boredom and a preoccupation with the fallacy of the Floridian promise of ‘paradise.’” The resulting photographs document south and central Florida, exploring human isolation and loneliness against the state’s backdrop of immense natural wonder—and its breakdown.
