Munich, Germany-based artist Jonah Gebka’s paintings follow an interest in repetition and patterns. His most recent series, “A-Z,” depicts the transitional moments in which a person reaches out to take or put back a book from a shelf. His tidy, minimalist compositions allow space to consider the formal qualities of the work. He explains: “I use this representation of searching and finding the regulated but constantly changing space of the bookshelf, as a method to pursue questions immanent to my paintings, such as motive, form, and color.”
Gebka’s work has been shown at institutions and galleries internationally, as well as in artist books and publications.
