A selection of images drawn from two bodies of work, “We Shared the Same Color That Evening,” and “We’re Just Here for the Bad Guys,” by Seattle, Washington-based photographer Brian Van Lau. The work follows a dreamlike interpretation of Lau’s complicated family history, and the means by which he is attempting to contextualize the trauma and disassociation he has experienced as a result of this process. “My father and I in particular,” he explains, “especially in his abrupt passing, have unearthed unconscious fears and an uncomfortably elliptical journey into finding our sense of ‘home.'”
“These pictures, while drawn from reality, merely become the evidence in my unconscious in order to piece together these conflicting feelings.”
