The folks over at Peerspace have put together a great new program to lift the voices of BIPOC photographers. According to a study in 2019, 70% of professional photographers in the United States are white. In an effort to address this disparity, Peerspace has launched Space For Change, a quarterly program that aims to provide access to resources and education for emerging creatives from underrepresented communities.
Peerspace is an online marketplace for booking unique spaces for people to meet, create, and celebrate. They are teaming up with management company Giant Artists, photography marketplace Moment, and online creative community space ilovecreatives, to sponsor three BIPOC photographers. The aim is to foster the careers of commercial photographers specifically, with each winner receiving:
- $1K Peerspace credit
- Management, Marketing & Production Master Class with Giant Artists founder, Jen Jenkins
- 3-month commercial photography portfolio mentorship from Giant Artists
- Complementary Creative Profile from ilovecreatives
- $500 in Moment brand gear
- $500 in Moment courses
Applicants can enter by filling out the submission form and submitting their portfolio through the Peerspace Space for Change website, until July 21. Applicants will be judged on artistry, technique, and commercial potential. Entries are free. Winners will be announced in August.
