“Melt” by Photographer Pat O’Malley

Throughout his childhood in landlocked Omaha, Nebraska, photographer Pat O’Malley (previously featured here) rarely interacted with fresh or saltwater. “Now after spending the last decade living and working in Brooklyn, I’ve been exposed and consumed by a love for water in all its forms,” he explains. His ongoing series, “Melt,” juxtaposes his affinity for water with the rising global temperatures and scorching heat waves of our present reality. “Exploring these themes and their implications for our collective future, his images present a tangible contrast between the two extremes. Likening our complacency to frogs in a boiling pot, he explains—”we’re sitting idly by as the solid world liquifies.”
