A selection of images from “The Ravine, The Virgin, & The Spring,” — the latest project by Guatemala City-based photographer and independent art director Juan Brenner (previously featured here). Shot entirely in Guatemala City, the series has allowed Brenner to connect with familiar territory in new ways, stepping outside of his comfort zone and exploring new topics and image-making processes.
“I’m really interested in how history has shaped our way of life and in this instance, I dialogue with the city in search of understanding how we got here,” Brenner explains. “Primitive urban planning, the 20th century and its political turmoil, internal war, natural disasters and globalization, have made Guatemala City one of the most eclectic and peculiar places I’ve ever been to.”
