“The Painted Wall” by Photographer Jared Landberg

A selection of images from “The Painted Wall”, by photographer and educator Jared Landberg. Born and raised in Indiana, Landberg is currently based in Indianapolis, where he teaches at the Herron School of Art and Design. His practice exists at the intersection between landscape and studio photography, joining the two in the creation of a distinct visual style.

“For me, image making is a deeply experiential and speculative process,” he explains. “The foundation of my practice is grounded in a woven combination of empirical observations guided by visual experimentation, as it pertains to built and natural worlds. I see photography and image making as a means of exploration in and out of the world and mind. It is, in short, a laboratory.”

“Painted Wall” is a collection of images and sounds made in southern California in the fall of 2016 and spring of 2017. Landberg describes the desert landscape as “monumental, barren, and still,” and his interventions in the landscape create a sort of sculptural portrait of place.
