A selection of recent work by Miami-born, Philadelphia-based artist and lecturer Mark Thomas Gibson. While illustrating a dystopic America with a dark sense of humour, Gibson’s drawings aim to remind us that hope is not lost and that we are all in this together:
“The immediacy and power in making a mark is not so different from writing a book – it could literally change history, or perhaps more importantly, how history is perceived. By employing a direct and unedited drawing method, I am able to riff on the traditions of improvisation, humor, the comic, and the grotesque by way of image-making and technique.”
