Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based photographer and designer Chase Barnes explores an emerging landscape at the intersection of simulation, power, and concealment in “Wilderness of Mirrors”. “The series endeavors to visualize current mechanisms of surveillance and control that employ technology, anxiety, and images as a means to destabilize and restructure belief”, Barnes explains. These concepts are seen throughout the “veritable wilderness” that Barnes creates with his images.
He explains that “Wilderness of Mirrors” ultimately “describes an urgent need to reclaim the agency we have lost to convenience and abstraction. The work seeks to question default realities and reframe our relationship to this digital landscape, before it is completely determined for us.”
