A selection of images from “The Era of Hopeful Monsters” by Memphis, Tennessee-based photographer Caleb Churchill. The series examines the intersection of man and nature and the marks we leave behind. Churchill elaborates:
“This body of work takes a critical and empathetic look at how we envision our collective identity in relationship to our environment. Whether it is urban, our few remaining wild spaces or, as is most often the case, somewhere in between: a mixed geography of concrete and wildflowers. These images find the beauty, the humor and the bittersweet in our contemporary environment, taking each moment for what it is and what it says about our species.”
