Beautiful paintings by Pennsylvania-born artist Karin Waskiewicz. Aiming to decode landscapes through colour, Waskiewicz breaks down variations in hue and shade into abstract swatches. The textured nature of her work comes from layers of acrylic paint, which are then cut into with woodcarving tools.
This process of sedimentation and erasure — covering and uncovering — plays into Waskiewicz’s interest in facades and clandestine patterns. Some existing longer than others. And some never seen again. See more images below or on display at CODEX PROJECT in New York City November 8 – 21.
